Town & Country
Not unlike Eyes Wide Shut, this is an eerily earnest contemplation of fidelity, and it's pitched as farce. Like Tom Cruise in that movie, Warren Beatty is propositioned implicitly and explicitly by an uncanny number of women in a short period of time, during which he's also struggling mightily if not heroically to relate to his wife (Diane Keaton). Unlike Cruise, Beatty has sex with several characters; one of the women he manages to avoid and the reasons he avoids her are quite absurd--though not as funny as may have been intended. Peter Chelsom (Funny Bones) directed a screenplay by Michael Laughlin and Buck Henry; with Garry Shandling, Goldie Hawn, Nastassja Kinski, Jenna Elfman, Andie MacDowell, and Henry. 106 min. |
