The Man in the White Suit
Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader

The Ealing comedies didn't come much better than this 1951 feature, which stars Alec Guinness as an amateur inventor who creates a fabric that will never wear out. The director, American-born Alexander Mackendrick, was one of the few who worked for Ealing who put his personal stamp on every project: his characters are warmly drawn without condescension, and his social commentary has real bite. With Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker, and Ernest Thesiger. 85 min.
