The Lavender Hill Mob
A quaint and pleasantly amoral British comedy (1950) in which a frumpy bank clerk (Alec Guinness) steals three million pounds in gold bullion and contrives to smuggle it out of London disguised as souvenir statues of the Eiffel Tower. Very droll but slightly gray, directed by Charles Crichton from a screenplay by the dean of British scenarists, T.E.B. Clarke. With Stanley Holloway and a flash of a young Audrey Hepburn. 82 min. |
