The Ladykillers
Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader

Mordant whimsy from Britain (1955), with Alec Guinness, Herbert Lom, and Peter Sellers as bumbling crooks who commandeer an old lady's bungalow as their base of operations for a robbery. Very good of its type, though the director, Alexander Mackendrick, made several more personal and accomplished films (including Tight Little Island, The Maggie, and Sweet Smell of Success). Like several of the best British directors, he was a native-born American.
