Gentleman Jim
Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader

Errol Flynn as James J. Corbett, working his way from the San Francisco slums to the heavyweight championship of the world, driven by the mysterious inner exigencies that mark Raoul Walsh's most personal heroes. Walsh's subtle, sophisticated use of deep focus creates the perfect dramatic space for his dynamically directed actors, and the biographical format allows him to indulge his flair for loose story structures held together by strong cinematic rhythms. Corbett is a bit of a jerk, and a much better character for it; his brashness is infectious. With Ward Bond as an aging, dignified John L. Sullivan, and Alan Hale, Alexis Smith, Jack Carson, and John Loder (1942).
