The Damned
The basic concept here--treat the Nazi era as a tattered Wagnerian opera--is rather obvious and limited, but it does provide a springboard for Luchino Visconti's assorted fetishes, both thematic and stylistic (1969). The camera moves and the world crumbles. With Dirk Bogarde, Ingrid Thulin, Helmut Berger, Charlotte Rampling, Helmut Griem, and Rene Koldehoff. 156 min. |
